Below are some common questions travellers often ask before visiting Tanzania. If you don’t find the information you’re looking for, feel free to email us and our team will respond as quickly as possible.
The US Dollar is widely accepted in Tanzania for tour payments, park fees and tips. Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) are useful for local purchases and markets. We recommend bringing a mix of both. ATMs are available in Arusha and major towns.
Yellow fever vaccination is required if arriving from a yellow fever endemic country. We also strongly recommend vaccinations for typhoid, hepatitis A & B, meningitis and tetanus. Malaria prophylaxis is essential — consult your doctor or travel clinic at least 6 weeks before departure.
For safaris and Kilimanjaro, fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) — 45 minutes from Arusha. For Zanzibar, fly into Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ). Nairobi (NBO) in Kenya is also a popular hub with many connections to both airports.
We accept all major payment methods: credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard), bank wire transfer, PayPal, and cash on arrival. A 30% deposit secures your booking; the balance is payable 30 days before departure.
A personal first aid kit is highly recommended — include blister plasters, ibuprofen, anti-diarrhoea tablets, antiseptic cream and any personal prescription medicines. For Kilimanjaro, also pack altitude medication (Diamox) after consulting your doctor.
Tanzania has two dry seasons: June–October (cool & dry, best for wildlife) and January–February (hot & dry, calving season). Two rainy seasons are April–May (long rains) and November–December (short rains). Kilimanjaro temperatures range from 25°C at the base to below -15°C at the summit.
Absolutely! A Maasai village visit is one of the most rewarding experiences in Tanzania. We can arrange an authentic cultural visit near Arusha or the Ngorongoro area. You'll witness traditional dances, learn about Maasai customs and have the opportunity to support the community directly.
Tipping is customary and greatly appreciated. For Kilimanjaro, we recommend $20–25/day for your lead guide, $10–15/day for assistant guides, and $6–8/day for porters and cooks. For safaris, $10–15/day per vehicle guide is standard.
